In line with the state's Strategic Transportation Master Plan (STMP), the Lagos State government has officially announced its intention to impose restrictions on unregulated commercial bus services, notably Danfos and Koropes, operating along the bustling Lekki-Epe route starting from the 1st of October, 2024.

As reported by Vanguard, Sola Giwa, the government's transportation consultant, emphasized that this strategic decision is aimed at elevating the overall commuting experience within this region through a meticulous revamp of the existing transportation framework.

Under this comprehensive plan, the government is collaborating closely with public transit bus operators and union representatives to streamline and integrate the informal transport sector into the State's ambitious Bus Reform Initiative, thereby fostering a more efficient and organized public transportation system.

The multifaceted approach involves a thorough restructuring of current bus services, the introduction of high-capacity buses, the rerouting of minibuses, the introduction of an innovative e-ticketing mechanism, and the development of essential transportation infrastructure to support these enhancements.

Scheduled to unfold in stages, the implementation will hold non-compliant operators accountable by imposing penalties and potential vehicle confiscation for those who flout the new regulations.

With a primary focus on bolstering safety measures, enhancing passenger comfort, and fortifying security protocols along the vibrant Lekki-Epe corridor, the government is steadfast in its mission to redefine the landscape of public transportation in Lagos State.
