Alhaji Aliko Dangote, founder and Chief Executive of the Dangote Group, has reclaimed the title of Africa’s richest man from South African businessman Johann Rupert.

As of August 5th, 2024, Dangote's net worth is $13.7 billion, surpassing Rupert's current net worth of $13.3 billion.

Rupert briefly overtook Dangote on August 2nd, 2024, with a net worth of $13.6 billion, matching Dangote's at the time. Rupert's recent surge was attributed to a $134 million increase in his last valuation, with year-to-date gains of $1.21 billion. In contrast, Dangote experienced a $1.53 billion loss in year-to-date valuation despite a slight $27 million uptick in his last valuation change.

Currently, Rupert ranks 155th on Bloomberg's list with a last valuation change of -$334 million and year-to-date change of +$875 million. Dangote, on the other hand, stands at 149th position with a last valuation change of +$144 million and year-to-date change of -$1.38 billion. Rupert's rise was fueled by strong performances in his diversified portfolio, including luxury goods company Richemont, known for brands like Cartier and Montblanc.
