Afrobeats star Rema, also known as Divine Ikubor, has urged his counterparts in the Nigerian music scene to preserve the essence of Afrobeats.

In an interview with Apple Music, the 'Charm' singer emphasized the importance of promoting Afrobeats over the rising Amapiano genre to maintain Nigeria's leading position in African music.

Despite recognizing the appeal of Amapiano, Rema drew inspiration from Afrobeats icons such as Don Jazzy, the Mo'Hits crew, 2Baba, Olamide, P-Square, and Timaya for his latest album, 'He Is.'

  • “Amapiano is great, it is fire but there used to be a time when Afrobeats production used to be so ins@ne that nothing can survive it in the clubs in Africa. I’m not saying we’ve lost that but I’m just saying that we need more of that. I don’t want us to go too far away from that. We need to sustain it.”
