Renowned comedian and musician Bright Okputa, better known as Basketmouth recently elaborated on his decision to indirectly reference music artist Ayo Balogun, also known as Wizkid during Davido's traditional wedding festivities that took place a fortnight ago.
The incident stemmed from Wizkid's enigmatic tweet following his perceived rival Davido's release of pre-wedding photos, which stirred controversy. In response, Basketmouth highlighted the overwhelming presence of Davido's wedding on social media, subtly suggesting that Wizkid's tweet went unnoticed by the public, eliciting a strong reaction, especially from Wizkid's fans.
In a recent video statement, Basketmouth clarified that his tweet targeting Wizkid was a calculated marketing maneuver, anticipating the ensuing backlash it would generate. This strategic move was intended to draw attention to both the wedding event and his own presence in the public eye.
The comedian and actor said:
“Wizkid is my guy, what I did was a marketing technique, I knew it was edgy, it would get people talking and it did what I expected it to do, it worked in my favour”.
