Hailing from Benin City, award-winning singer Rema has consistently celebrated his Edo roots through his music.

As a proud ambassador of Edo State, he has played a vital role in promoting the cultural legacy of the ancient Benin Kingdom on both national and international stages. His latest hit single, ‘Benin Boys,’ featuring fellow Edo-born artist Shallipopi, serves as a tribute to his hometown and showcases his pride in his heritage. In this track, Rema boldly declares his deservingness of royal recognition from the Oba for his efforts in elevating the Benin Kingdom through his artistry.

Recently, Afrobeats superstar Divine Ikubor, known as Rema, received a royal plaque from the Oba of Benin, Oba Ewuare II. The prestigious award was presented during his visit to the Oba’s palace on Thursday, which coincided with his homecoming concert at Ogbe Stadium in Benin City. This significant event highlighted Rema's deep connection to his roots and recognized his contributions to the music scene.

The royal accolade follows Rema’s participation in the groundbreaking ceremony for the Edo Arena on Wednesday, where Edo State Governor Godwin Obaseki announced that the 6,000-capacity arena would be named ‘Rema Dome’. This naming honors the artist’s substantial contributions to promoting Edo State on a global scale, further solidifying his influential role in elevating the profile of his home state through music and his international presence.
